The ninth edition of Beyond Media, International Festival for Architecture and Media, opens today at the Stazione Leopolda in Firenze, Italy. It features a number of videos, exhibitions, and a symposium in which the protagonists of the International debate on media in Architecture will participate. A plurality of overviews on Architecture and its ever more intense relation with diverse Media will be debated. With Visions, the Beyond Media Festival will encourage reflections and comparisons, will promote discussions on emerging issues, and will involve young architects and artists who are active in the construction of contemporary Architecture. Until July 17th.

A surprising event will celebrate the anniversary of Andrea Palladio, the great architect that has redrawn and made famous Vicenza in the world. In the night between November 29th and the 30th, exactly five hundred years after Palladio’s birth, Piazza dei Signori will be the location for the vertical dance by the Sonics, followed by a solo piano concert with Michael Nyman, one of the greatest exponents of the musical minimalism. After the lighting of the Christmas lights at midnight, the American DJ Spooky (That Subliminal Kid) will perform his extraordinary trip hop music session.

Villa Nazionale Pisani in Stra (Venezia) was given the prize for The Most Beautiful Park in Italy for the year 2008. Designed during the first half of the Eighteenth century and recently restored, it is considered a perfect combination of the space conception typical of the French Baroque and traditional Italian gardens. The jury was formed by a number of experts and journalists.

On Saturday the 1st, the Ecosoft Art show will be inaugurated on the occasion of the official opening of Pav (the Park of Living Art) in Torino. The collective exhibition will show the mission of Pav through a collection of installations and works made since 2002 by different artists, including the creator of the park, Piero Gilardi. Ecosoft Art is staged in the bio-structure laboratory at the park entrance and features three sections: “Preludes”, “Arrivals” and “Visions”. Torino, Pav, Until December 21st.

The Turner Prize- winning sculptor Anish Kapoor has worked closely with architects and engineers on a number of major works over the last twenty-five years.
An exhibition of his architectural models is being held at The Royal Institute of British Architects, London. Included in the exhibition are models for projects such as The Salvation Army Visitor Centre and the entrances for the Naples Subway. London, RIBA, Gallery 1, October 15th - November 8th
